God’s Mission in Honduras was focus of March 20 Mission Thursday

The work that God is doing through the Episcopal Diocese of Honduras was featured at the March 20 Mission Thursday.

Speakers will included Bishop Lloyd Allen, who has led the diocese since 2001, and Canon Consuelo Sanchez, executive director of the Anglican Association for the Development of Honduras.

While vicar of Santa Maria Church in the capital city of Tegucigalpa from 1991 to 2001, Allen planted 17 congregations, founded St. Mary’s Episcopal Bilingual School and established several health clinics.  He is the first native Honduran bishop, and under his leadership the diocese has grown from 87 to 136 congregations.

“My ultimate goal,” Bishop Allen says, “is to lead the church in Honduras away from the legacy of dependency under which it was founded back in 1861.”  Allen is one of the longest-serving bishops in the Episcopal Church.

Sanchez, canon to the ordinary, leads the Anglican Association for the Development of Honduras, AANGLIDESH in its Spanish acronym, an NGO whose mission is to empower vulnerable young men and women. It works with microfinance and business leadership programs that have educational and spiritual content to motivate them to have dreams and improve their living conditions.

The webinar was especially helpful as an orientation for those planning to participate in Missio 2025, the world mission conference for the Episcopal Church, which was in San Pedro Sula, April 29-May 2.
