Diocese of Atlanta representatives to GEM:

Companion Dioceses: 

                                     Diocese of Central Ecuador: Since May 2008 there have been two mission trips to Ecuador. One was a work trip to Buen Pastor in Quito Sur.  The second was a diocesan medical mission where the group served approximately 900 people in 5 days.  A multigenerational trip is scheduled for June 2009 and a Seeding Mission is scheduled for September.

                                Diocese of Rio de Janeiro: The new bishop is the Rt. Rev. Filadelfo de Oliviera.  Efforts are in process to establish several sister parish relationships.

                                Diocese of Central Tanganyika, Tanzania: Projects are in place to support Solar Light for Africa, Carpenter's Kids, clean water wells, Msalato Seminary, a hospital and other ongoing efforts. 

Missionaries from the Diocese:

          The Rev. Sandra McCann MD and Martin McCann MD (www.mccannmission.org) are ECUSA Appointed Missionaries from the Diocese of Atlanta working in Dodoma, Tanzania in the Diocese of Central Tanganyika under Bishop Mdimi Mhogolo. Sandi is teaching at the seminary and Martin is working at the hospital in Dodoma. This is their second 3 year tour.

Margaret Griffin, Volunteer for Mission, returned in December 2006 from 18 months in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and is now serving in Central Tanganyika.  Her home parish is St. Peter's, Rome, Georgia.

Currently, there is one Young Adult Service Corps member from the Diocese of Atlanta: The Rev. Leigh Preston serving in El Salvador.  Marian Dickson serving in Ecuador Central and Kelly Tesh Alexander serving in Central Tanganyika have now returned home.

Received from Companion Dioceses: This past year we received visits from the Rt. Rev. Filadelfo de Oliviera, the Rev. Inamar Correa de Souza and the Rev Eduardo Grio from Rio de Janeiro, Mrs. Dolly O'Neil Mejia from Ecuador Central and Mrs. Irene Mhogolo from Central Tanganuika.

 Diocesan Mission Projects:

        Ongoing mission work is being conducted by parishes in Haiti, Guyana, Mexico, Kenya, Honduras  and other places. The purposes of trips ranges from building, enculturation, medical and teaching to a variety of other purposes.
